Choosing your marquee hire

A marquee lets you marry in a family garden, a farm field or a vineyard — and Jersey has some beautiful private grounds that only work with a structure. Before you fall for a site, ask the marquee company to visit it: access for lorries and lifting gear, ground conditions, power supply, and where toilets and catering tents will sit.

The hire price of the structure is one line of several. Flooring, matting or hard floor, lining, chandeliers or festoon, heating — genuinely needed even in July for an Atlantic evening — generators, toilets and furniture are usually quoted separately. Collect all of them into one working number before comparing suppliers.

Discuss anchoring, wind ratings and the wet-weather installation plan, and confirm setup and strike days with the landowner in writing. Some Jersey farms and vineyards host several weddings a season, so early site visits are worthwhile before committing a structure to a summer Saturday.
