Jersey cake makers range from home bakers to patisseries, and most deliver and set up island-wide — travel is rarely a surcharge on a 45-square-mile island, but summer Saturdays book out months ahead. Compare quotes on portion count, not on tier count: a three-tier cake for 80 and a three-tier cake for 150 are different products.
Ask about tastings — some bakers include them, others charge — and about dietary requirements, from gluten-free tiers to vegan sponge. Tell the baker where the cake will stand and for how long: a marquee in August and an air-conditioned hotel ballroom are different environments for buttercream.
Confirm stands, toppers, cutting instructions and whether the cake is collected or delivered, and get the setup time agreed in writing with the venue. Most Jersey bakers ask for final confirmed numbers about two weeks before the day, with the balance of portions decided then rather than at booking.
